Using 263 million broilers produced in 2025 and a July 1, 2025 Delaware population estimate of 1,059,952 gives approximately 248 annual broilers produced per resident. This is a scale comparison between annual agricultural production and the state’s resident population. It does not mean Delawareans eat 248 chickens each, and it does not account for exports, imports, waste, processing location or the timing of production. The Census Bureau reports that 22.8% of Delaware residents were age 65 or older in the 2020–2024 period.
Flock meets folks.
Two different scales, shown side by side — annual broiler production and the resident population estimate.
County population estimates are demographic context only. The broiler-production figure is statewide; no county broiler output is inferred here. Production divided by population is not a measure of consumption or dietary intake.
What to keep in view
- Annual broiler production ÷ resident population ≈ 248
- Delaware population: 1,059,952 (July 1, 2025 estimate)
- Population aged 65+: 22.8% (2020–2024 ACS period)
- County population comparisons are demographic context, not county poultry output
